Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am in crisis?

Blue Lotus Therapy Services is an outpatient mental health practice and we are not able to act as a crisis line.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency CALL 911 or 988 (Suicide Hotline), or go to your local CMH or emergency room.

How long does each session take?

Therapy sessions can last 45 minutes, but typically last 55 minutes.

How often do sessions occur?

At the start of therapy, sessions are typically held weekly. Consistent and frequent sessions help to ensure that therapy is effective and useful for clients. As therapy goes on it is not uncommon for sessions to spread out to every other week or longer as determined to be appropriate by both the therapist and the client(s).

What happens in the first session?

Day one of therapy is a paperwork and get to know you day. Since you take the time to complete paperwork before the first appointment your therapist will review it and go over the answers you have provided. Your therapist will then spend time asking questions to learn more about you, what brings you to therapy, and what your goals are for completion of the therapy process.

How does Telehealth work?

The Telehealth service we use at Blue Lotus Therapy Services is included in the Electronic Health Records program, Simple Practice. The Telehealth service is HIPAA-compliant, which means the developers of the technology work to keep all of your protected health information safe and confidential.

If you are using Telehealth services with your therapist, you will be manually sent a link the day of your appointment to invite you to the session. If you are using your computer, then clicking the link should open a new tab in your browser (Chrome and Firefox seem to work the best). If you are using your phone or tablet, you will need to first download the Telehealth app through SimplePractice. Once you and your therapist both join the Telehealth meeting, your session can begin.

How do I pay for therapy services?

Blue Lotus Therapy Services is paneled with a variety of insurance companies including: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Cigna, Cofinity, Humana, McLaren, McLaren Medicaid, Meridian Medicaid, PHP, Tricare, and United Behavioral Health/United Healthcare. Not all therapists at Blue Lotus Therapy Services are individually paneled with the listed insurances. It is the client's responsibility to learn what their outpatient mental health coverage is, including copay and deductible, prior to the onset of therapy.

If you prefer to pay out of pocket for your sessions please discuss this with your therapist prior to the first appointment.

Blue Lotus Therapy Services accepts cash, checks, and credit cards (including HSA and FSA) to pay for copays, deductibles, and late cancel/no-show fees.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.  Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.  You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

Please ask your provider directly for a Good Faith Estimate if you desire a copy before you receive services.
